I believe that, given the opportunity and with the right information, people will make the right decision for themselves and their family. I believe that for many people, Collaborative Process creates that right opportunity.

I ensure that my clients know and understand all of their options and together we create solutions that best suit their situation and family's needs.

I support my clients in balancing the need to manage the emotional struggles of a separation and divorce, while also using logical and practical approaches to guide them towards achieving timely, cost-effective and successful results. In my Collaborative Law practice, I work with clients to move through the initial chaos and uncertainty of a separation toward closure and a final resolution of the parenting, child and spousal support and property issues.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from York University in 1980, followed by a Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A.) from York University in 1983. She became an associate of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto earning her A.R.C.T. degree in November 1986. Bio: Ms. Holzman has been a Family Law lawyer for 38 years.

She was a Dispute Resolution Officer (DRO) for the Newmarket Court for 4 1/2 years.

She is a trained mediator and arbitrator, and of course, a collaborative lawyer.

She was one of the first lawyers in Ontario to embrace the collaborative movement. She strongly believes in the customized settlements that are available to families who are resolving their differences collaboratively and strongly feels that resolution of family differences, in the collaborative fashion, positively reinforces the children, maximizes family assets available for the parties and protects the financial resources of the parties.

Collaborative Family Law allows for the special needs of each family to be taken into consideration, especially the needs of their children and allows for that special, very elusive result which is that a child of divorce has a "normal" childhood. The couple themselves can move on to a brighter future with little angst and at peace.

Separations are a super stressful and difficult time. It’s really important to me to be the supportive person who helps to make things easier for my clients to do right by themselves and their family. To get through a separation in one piece and be okay. To imagine a future after separation. I will support you to make things better on the other side, so that you and your family will make it in one piece.

I work with families primarily in the Collaborative Process because this practice allows dignity and respect for couples to talk about what matters most to them. I will help to guide you through those bumpy and difficult conversations.

My 30 years of being a lawyer has included being part of the leadership in Collaborative Practice. I am so passionate about the power of this practice that I have also served as a board member of York Collaborative Practice and the Ontario Collaborative Law Federation. As a Dispute Resolution Officer in the Ontario Superior Court my role was to help families discuss and settle matters in that system.

My practice is restricted to non-litigation and settlement files, where I help people move forward and get solid closure.

I live in Aurora with my two children. Outside the law office I enjoy singing with the York Region Community Choir, walking my dog and destressing with yoga. Please call or email me…I am happy to have a chat with you about the Collaborative Process!

You and your family are important to me. I want to help you keep your family strong during this difficult time. I will listen carefully to you – I can only help you if I know what matters to you and your family. I will then use my knowledge, experience, creativity and compassion to work with you to develop solutions to resolve whatever issues you and your family are facing. I feel very strongly that the best way to resolve your conflict is out of court, so I focus on achieving out of court resolution for you, using the Collaborative process, or mediation. I have extensive experience, practicing Collaborative Family Law and out of court resolution exclusively, since 2004. I was the Chair of the Board of York Collaborative Practice for 5 years (was actively involved on the Board for a total of 8 years), and was on the Board of the Ontario Collaborative Law Federation for 4 years. If you are ready to move on, I am ready to show you the way.

Most families going through separation would benefit from choosing a process where they retain control over decision making for their future and their family’s future. I empower my clients by providing important legal information and I work together with them to generate options that will enable them to turn this critical and difficult turning point in their lives into a path of new beginnings and eventually, positive change. The collaborative process is a unique opportunity that allows couples to not only work through the issues arising from the separation in a respectful and creative way; it also builds a foundation, through the development of skills, that helps establish ways of communication for the future, which are particularly important when there are children in the family. My approach to the collaborative process is child-focused as I recognize that the little ones are often the most affected by the separation.

I work with clients to construct parenting and financial arrangements by offering practical and creative ideas, educating clients about the law, while remaining child focused throughout. I help my clients to sift through the legal, financial and emotional information and identify and prioritize what matters most to them. A key component of the collaborative process is the recognition that one size does not fit all. I work with clients to come up with creative solutions to meet their unique needs, both financial and parenting with the resources that are available to them. When helpful, I bring in collaborative parenting or financial professionals to be part of the team to assist the family and ensure minimum harm is done and the conflict is resolved. I am happy to provide a half an hour free consultation to discuss the collaborative process and whether it is right for you and your family. Jennifer has been practicing family law since 2012. She offers clients her knowledge, advocacy skills, and expertise at a competitive hourly rate. Having conducted a family law trial early on in her legal career, Jennifer quickly learned that Court (or traditional Out-of-Court negotiations) is not always the most satisfactory (or cost-effective) approach for every client, regardless of the outcome achieved. Having the desire to afford clients with a choice - a choice in which clients have control over signing up with a process that best suits their family circumstances - Jennifer signed on wholeheartedly to the Collaborative Practice model to complement her existing practice.
