Brett Degoldi

Brett has practised family law for 17 years in Canada and Australia.  His practise deals with all aspects of family law, including children/parenting matters, child support, spousal support, property and equalization.  He has a wealth of experience helping married and unmarried (common law) couples.

Experienced and Approachable

Brett is a senior lawyer focused on getting fair and just results for his clients by negotiating settlements.  He is passionate about reducing conflict and keeping disputes out of court wherever possible, and especially where children are involved.  Brett’s practise includes court and non-court files, lawyer-assisted settlement negotiations, collaborative practice, and mediation.  He sometimes represents clients who are commencing or responding to court applications on a non-urgent basis.  Brett believes in carefully listening to your concerns and needs, and will work with you to help you decide what is the best process for you.

Brett holds postgraduate degrees in law and psychology. He is a graduate of the University of British Columbia with a Masters Degree in Law, and holds a Doctorate in Psychology from Monash University, and is a trained mediator.

Brett is a member of the Law Society of Ontario; and was previously a Dispute Resolution Officer (DRO) in the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Family Court Branch (Barrie) from 2014 – 2017.

Open Minded

Brett is a dual citizen of Canada and Australia.  He has called Simcoe County home since 2010.  Brett has travelled widely and has also lived in Melbourne, Perth, Vancouver, Montreal, Toronto and New York.
